LabGuy's World: Monoscope 1 Project

The Monoscope tube is a TV camera with a fixed image - think Indian Head Test Pattern

PROJECT GOAL: Construct a monoscope around these old Symbol Ray monoscope tubes. These are the cathode ray vacuum tube equivelant of a character generator ROM chip. They produced the overlay text characters for early computerized radar systems used by the US military in the early 1960s through the 1970s. After the electronics are constructed and debugged, these tubes will then go to a specialty company to replace the character target with a custom test pattern target of my own design. The feasibility of the project has been confirmed and will proceed after, and ONLY after, one of my other on going projects is completed. The circuitry to drive these tubes is virtually identical to my Tiny Ike project. In fact, only the electron gun voltage divider need be modified to make these work. Stay tuned!
